North Carolina Select Basketball in its second Tournament outside of the State of North Carolina, North Carolina Select Grassroots Basketball headed to Columbia, South Carolina for the 2011 South Carolina End Of Summer Rumble.
North Carolina Select Grassroots Basketball v.s. South Carolina Brookfield AAU
North Carolina Select took on the South Carolina Brookfield AAU Basketball Team in their home facility. North Carolina Select took an early lead in the games first 5 minutes jumping out to a 9-2 lead behind the hot start of Combo Guard Haverty Matondo.
Brookfield came back behind some aggressive rebounding and using their interior size advantage to dominate on the glass and near the basket. The Brookfield Elite AAU came back and eventually cut the score and took the lead 36-31 at halftime.
The second half of the game proved to be a tightly contested battle for the first 15 minutes. South Carolina Brookfield AAU eventually pulled away and eventually won by the score of 71-65 points.
North Carolina Select Combo Guard Haverty Matondo finished with 30 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, 6'4 Combo Guard Andre Ruff chipping in with his slashing and aggressive perimeter play finishing with 11 points and also pulled down 8 rebounds.
Wing Guard Drew Daffron continued his hot shooting (finishing 4-5 from the field for 12 points and grabbed 3 rebounds whilst Andre Ruff. Point guard Malik Ford finished with 5 points and 4 assists whilst Wing Kerry Ivory finished with 13 rebounds and 7 points and 2 blocks.
North Carolina Select Basketball v.s. Georgia Future Stars AAU
Coming off a Tough Early Morning loss, North Carolina Select attempted to bounce back against The Georgia Future stars, North Carolina Select did place in double figures, Guard Reggie Young finished with 11 points and 5 assists along with Combo guard Haverty Matondo had 16 points and 12 rebounds, Wing Kerry Ivory finished with 8 points and 12 rebounds, in a close battle that came right down to the wire and lost the game by 4 points.
6'4 Combo guard Andre Ruff woke up and attacked the basket aggressively and used an array of floaters, jumpshots and putbacks to finishing with 21 points in a loss by 6 points.
North Carolina Select Basketball v.s. South Carolina Rebels AAU
North Carolina Select coming off a tough early morning battle against the Home team Brookefield Elite AAU, North Carolina Select attempted to rebound against the South Carolina Rebels AAU.
North Carolina Select fell behind early in the game 18-4 but after an early timeout North Carolina Select bounced back to cut and eventually take a 35-33 Halftime lead. After battling down the stretch to hold a slim 2 point lead, The Rebels hit a two as time expired in regulation to send the game to Overtime.
After a back and forth through out a spirited final 3 minute overtime.
Wing guard Drew Daffron hit back to back three pointers to push the lead to 6.The South Carolina Rebels AAU responded with 5 straight baskets and pulled out a tough game that couldve went either way. The Final Score 60-56 in favor of the Rebels as North Carolina Select dropped a tough game that could have really went either way.
Wing Guard Drew Daffron had a Career Game against the South Carolina Rebels AAU shooting a stellar 6-7 from the floor including going a perfect 4-4 from the three point line in first and second overtimes combined. Daffron finished with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists and no turnovers as North Carolina Select fell in the double overtime battle.
Combo Guard Haverty Matondo scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, Combo Guard Andre Ruff contributed 8 points and Wing Kerry Ivory scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds along with 2 blocks, and South Carolina's own Point Guard Malik Ford finished with 5 points and 2 steals.
