HEALED

This image is so creepy to Mariah.
Mariah had another X-ray on her foot and leg. The doctor says the foot has healed and tumor is the same. I take this as all great news and we are happy to  have conquered that obstacle. I know that you have heard me carry on about how challenging Mariah can be at the doctor. She is a handful and I leave the office wanting a stiff drink or a plane to take me away. She hates all the posters and diagrams that are on the wall and counters of the orthopedists office. She  is so out spoken about it. I told  her today I would wallpaper her room in these posters if she did not behave. She truly takes me to the edge but Im not going to fall off because I don't want to break anything. Another fun day in the life of Mariah. We are in major planning mode for her 11th birthday party that will be held on Saturday. Stay tuned.

TUX AND CLASS PARTY

Busy weekend. Mariah had a placement exam today at her new school, Durham School Of The Arts.
Drew and I had to go shopping for a tux that would fit him. He owns 2 but they must have shrunk in the wash.
We hosted a get together for my Advanced Latin Dance class and ended the night at a Latin dance show at Duke.
Can we say OH what a day.
So tired.
Yeah I gotta get up tomorrow, finish Drew's laundry and drive him back to VES.
Monday comes to soon.
PS can you guess which tux Drew chose. Remember he is related to the wild and crazy Doug Daffron.

Duke Alert

Durham Police received an anonymous call this morning indicating that a bomb was in the Bryan Center.

The building was evacuated as a precaution and is now being searched.

Please avoid the area until the building has been cleared.

Not sure what is going on in our world but this is nuts. We have had a total of 3 threats this week. I pray that God grants us protection and peace in this wicked world.

Stuff

Today I have been on the road to pick up Drew from school and bring him back to get re-certified in
CPR, AED and First Aid.
Drew has been preparing for his ACT for some time and today was the day he would take the exam. I arrived about the time he finished and he was a bit down about how he felt he did on the test. We had a great ride back home spending the entire time talking about life and what had been going on in his life with school, sports, video productions and  his girl friend. It is so had to watch your kids struggle with making decisions in life and I could tell that Drew was under lots of stress. I am sad to say that Drew and his girl friend have split but know that long distant relationships and life can sometime take us on different paths. I have to say that I was taken back by Mariah and her reaction to the breakup. She was totally crushed and very angry with Drew and the situation. Lots of tears were shed and an ugly tantrum was displayed  but I get it, she was hurt.
Sunday brought us to Dukes East campus and Brodie Gym where the recertification was to take place.  He is officially ready to start his summer job. Doug drove Drew back to VES and continued on to Fairfax Virginia where he will be working this week. Busy weekend.

Poop Project

Mariah and her amazing Project
Project Poster
Yet another project for Mariah and our quest to pass the 5th grade. I must say I honestly don't think that I am smarter than a 5th grader.
The work is so demanding and challenging and the amount of projects is over the top. This is truly not a compliant because when this academic year is complete I know that she will be a much better student. I love her teachers and the fact that they have such high expectations. The bar is high and the stretch is long but she is succeeding. I am forever grateful.
The assignment was given in late February and the due dates were divided into 2 different days. March 22 and April 8.
The project was to create a business with a business plan and details. She also had to create a poster and give a verbal presentation. The feedback was great and I am hoping the grade is as well.

State Meet

The splits...A normal position for Mariah.
Happy Friday, Mariah has been on spring break this week and I have been teaching and staying busy with other projects. She has been in the gym this week and seems to be ready for the gymnastics state meet that will take place on Sunday in Wilmington North Carolina.
She will go tomorrow morning for one last practice before the big meet. I am not 100% sure which events she will compete in but bars a definite. Her foot seems to only hurt a little bit but she has complained about her ankle  the same foot. My guess is she has not used that foot for a month and its telling her to take it slow. Her doctor said to listen to and  feel her body so that she would know if she is ready for full impact.
Well, I honestly don't think that she slows down long enough to listen to me much less her body. This girl has only one speed and it is HIGH speed.
So Doug and I pray that she is safe and that no other injury comes to her. She is one passionate kid and I am blessed to be her Mom.

Goodbye Glitter

See ya later sequins.....
We had a doctors appointment yesterday. Mariah was afraid that the doctor would play an April Fools joke on her by telling her something bad. He said that he does not observe April Fools day and for her not to worry. The bones in her toes are healing but are not completely heal and she should still be careful of her activity. The BIG question was could she compete at the state meet this Sunday and he was cautious in his answer "Im not going to tell you NOT to compete because I can tell how important it is to you but please use good judgement with regards to pain and impact" what kind of statement is this? She plans to train today at 330 so we shall see. We have a follow up in 1 month to X-ray the foot again to see what progress of healing she has made. We will also X-ray the tibia and see how the tumor is progressing.  We like to keep thing interesting.

April Fools and 18 year anniversary

My handsome guy
Happy Anniversary to the LOVE of my life. Douglas Stephen Daffron,  the most amazing life partner that  I am truly honored to have spent the past 18 years as his wife.
I still remember our wedding day with so many awesome memories.
The ceremony, dinner, dance, short sheeted bed, wonderful friends and family.
The spectacular venue Grove Park Inn. Breath taking views and the climate was so wonderful.
I thank God for you and look forward to the next 18!
